Star Noble: Art Advice Columnist
Star informs artist not to be consumed by comparing their art to others.
Do you find yourself comparing your artwork with the work of others? If you do, it's normal but don't let it consume you. You have to know that there will always be artists that are deemed better than you, well, by art critic standards anyway, but luckily that will not determine your success as an artist...
Star advises artists to connect with your clients on some level (other than your work) and cultivate it.
If you're an artist and have collectors of your work then congratulations, you have a market for your work... a fan base if you will. And with a little luck, determination and continued hard work, may you enjoy the successes of so many artists that came before you. I don't know about you, but for me the inner child surfaces when doing business with someone who really appreciates what I've created...
Star shares ideas for making adjustments in the sales and marketing arena for artists.
I have never seen such a bigger bunch of cry babies than some of the artists out there today. Now of course I'm not including EVERY artist in this cry baby group. Star reports on two artists' outlook on their artistic success.
I recently had the opportunity to chat with two artists on separate occasions and wow...what a stark contrast there was. Now I'm not just talking about the style and medium they work in. I'm talking about the outlook they have on their artistic careers...
Star responds to an artist's dilemma – a completed painting they just aren't sure about.
DO OVER!!! Or...maybe not so much. Or maybe not at all! So you completed a painting and every time you look at it, there is something not quite right. Something is off and you just don't know what it is. Look, let me solve this no brainer. If you are not happy with it, news flash...it's probably NOT done!...
Star Noble responds to an artist's cry for help in this economy.
During these tough economic times, if you're like many artists out there, it's been easy to get frustrated over the lack of paintings flying out of your studio of late. I know many artists out there have enjoyed...
Copycat - January 2009
Star passionately addresses the subject of one artist copying another's style. As an artist and collector, she knows both sides of the coin.
COPYCAT! ... A word I remember being tossed around between friends and frienimee's alike when I was a child. We all knew what it meant and it wasn't anything that was misconstrued as something "good". You were called out for imitating someone else. A copycat plain and simple is someone who imitates or follows another: a copycat version of a successful product; a copycat crime...you get the idea....
