Fine Art Registry® Member Cork Marcheschi is Featured Instructor at the Famed Pilchuck Glass School
Fine Art Registry member, sculptor, author and teacher Cork Marcheschi has just completed teaching a summer session at the prestigious Pilchuck Glass School in Stanwood, Washington. Founded by world-renowned glass artist Dale Chihuly, Pilchuck is the most comprehensive educational center in the world for artists to create with glass and has been a primary force in the evolution of glass as a means of artistic expression. The stimulating yet serene Pilchuck environment fosters creativity and collaboration in a pristine, wooded retreat, free from the distractions of day to day living. As such, it is closed to the public and, though it's name has achieved near mythic status in the art world, few outsiders have actually ever seen the campus.
Through Cork, the Fine Art Registry multimedia team was invited to visit Pilchuck this week, tour the facilities, listen in on Cork's class and spend time interviewing students and faculty. This rare opportunity was captured in photographs and on video. The video can now been seen on the FAR website here. Cork taught "Public Art: Illuminating the Process", giving students the skills to compete in the arena of public art, based on his decades of successful national and international public commissions, with a focus on neon, one of Cork's specialty fields. He also exhibits his sculpture widely and is the author of Camille Fauré: Impossible Objects, a detailed account of the French glass enameling studio, which can be purchased in the FAR® Store. An entertaining and engaging speaker, Cork can be seen in two Fine Art Registry® DVD releases: Public Art: How to Win the Contract and the new release, Essential Perspectives on Contemporary Art, both also available in the FAR Store here.
FAR® Story Featured on Cover of ARTnews The June 2008 issue of ArtNews magazine carries a cover story entitled The Blue Print, an excellent two-page article about the recent investigation conducted by fingerprint forgery expert Pat Wertheim, on behalf of Fine Art Registry, into fingerprints used by Peter Paul Biro to "authenticate" a painting belonging to the Parker family of Long Island as being a genuine Jackson Pollock. Piece of the Month, Moonshadow Moonshadow
Says artist Heejohng Chae, "This is a drawing made with
rapidograph and colored pencils on paper. This piece was started and completed in 1996 while I was living on Maui. Some of it was drawn while sitting on the beach. The crescent moons were inspired by the extremely low-hanging moon I experienced there. The title was inspired by a song by Cat Stevens. The title should be sung as in the song." See Heejohng's FAR gallery here.FAR ID Tag: 20084 Title: Moonshadow Moonshadow Artist: Heejohng Chae Size: 10.75" x 8.25" Price: $1,200.00 |
